Baltimore: Sunnyfields, Gifts for the Home - Simon Pearce

My friend Jen took me to the Baltimore Junior League's Wise Penny Thrift Store on 5902 York Road.  After I picked up a pink v-neck cable knit cotton sweater, I noticed the unique display of merchandise generously donated by a store called Sunnyfields.  After seeing the quality of Sunnyfield’s gifts, I knew I had to visit their store in person.

Driving south on scenic Falls Road from Interstate 83, after passing the entrance to the Cloisters, you will begin seeing many independently owned shops and services lining Falls Road.  In the 1940's Sunnyfields was founded by Myrtle Helfrich who was known for her expertise in the areas of interior design, antiques and furniture reproduction.

Present day, Helfrich’s daughter, Jessica Schuler and her sons, Michael and David own and manage the business that specializes in gifts for the home.  Jessica and Michael were equally helpful and knowledgeable regarding my interest in the store's extensive porcelain and glass collections.  Based on quality, Sunnyfields has selected the collections from Simon Pearce, Herend, Bernardaud, Juliska, just to name a few, to grace their store.

One collection in particular, Simon Pearce, has become increasingly very popular. This company handcrafts their pottery and glass collections in the towns of Quechee and Windsor, Vermont.  I also surprised to see Simon Pearce also creates their beautiful home items in Mount Lake Park, Maryland too.  With so many jobs going overseas, it is inspiring to see that these product lines were being manufactured in the United States.

If you are out for a scenic drive, or need a gift for the home, by pass Interstate 83 and take Falls Road to Sunnyfields.
