Washington D.C.: DC Coast Restaurant

DC Coast Restaurant
Entrance on K Street in Washington D.C.
During the later part of April I got a chance to explore Washington D.C. after attending a conference with a great friend.  Noticing it was such a warm sunny day we decide to walk down K Street looking for a place to eat lunch. My friend Sharon, who at one point lived in D.C. thought it would be a better idea to ask a Washingtonian for restaurant recommendations. As two well dress business men pass us, Sharon (who serves as an excellent scout) casually asks them where should we eat.  They unanimously recommended DC Coast. Having no reservation and nearly every neatly clothed table was taken, we chose to be seated at the bar which was more interesting and far more entertaining.

Greeted by the infamous bartender Jeremy Lippman, we were given time to select our drinks and entrees.  It turns out our conversation with Jeremy was more than we bargained for.  Believe me, this is a TRUE story.  Apparently Jeremy grew up with David Dobkin, the director of the movie, "The Wedding Crashers."  I immediately thought and said, "Please, don't take a turn to negative town."  Jeremy and David would crash the high school parties of wealthy classmates in the upscale town of Bethesda.  Movie executives realized that in order for the movie to be successful, shifting the demographics was necessary, so the characters crashed weddings instead.  Along side Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, our bartender, Jeremy Lippman got a chance to play a couple of roles in the movie.

Lippman also mentioned that Dobkin has been directing another movie called "The Change -Up" featuring Ryan Reynolds and Justin Bateman.  Look for that movie to be released in the upcoming months.

While Jeremy is telling this great story, I let DC Coast Restaurant Manager Ryan McCarthy know I am writing a blog called Julie's Journeys and it is about Food, Fashion, Furnishings and Fun!  Ryan then replies, "Great Tag LIne, the 4 Fs." Ryan was on top of the service of the restaurant, ensuring the operations were running smoothly.

Onto the food review at DC Coast,  my appetizer, Goat Cheese Gnocchi, made with shiitake mushrooms, roasted rumba squash, and sage was super savory!  After every bite I declared, "I could eat vats of this stuff!"  My entree Chicken Paillard was accompanied with tomato-caper compote, watercress, and chicken jus tasted great with an Italian 2007 Pinot Grigio, Bollini - Trentino.

My friend Sharon ordered the Roasted Chioggia Beet Salad made with arugula, goat cheese cream, and mission fig vinaigrette.  I thought about ordering this salad too. Sharon really enjoyed her Norwegian Salmon prepared with pickled mustard seeds, fingerling potato, charred onion, and dill.  Chef Jeff Trunks is known for his innovative coastal cuisine.

Jeremy mentioned that DC Coast offers a Happy Hour $5 speciality drinks, all draft beers and selection of Wines are available Monday through Friday 3-6pm and every day 9:30pm to close in the bar and lounge.

If you are in DC, stop by DC Coast, the restaurant's food is fabulous and Bartender Jeremy Lippman shares great stories in addition to making awesome drinks!

  1. LOL. My friend and I went to DC Coast beginning of April 2011 as well! And you know who our bartender was? Jeremy Lippmann!!! He told us THE EXACT SAME STORY as he told you, with a few additions. His part in the Change Up was going to be "construction worker #2", which he proudly said would be in the credits. I was a bit disappointed I must say; the part he mentioned of him blowing something up to have Dave and Mitch (the Change Up) return to their own bodies towards the end of the film, wasn't in the film, nor was his one-line "as you wish". (I guess they cut that part)...Anyways, I FINALLY got around to watching this film today, for the Sole reason of finding this Bartender who I met!!! He appeared in the credits as another construction worker, so i Google his name along with 'DC' and your Blog came up. I thought it was a good story that I wanted to share. Cheers.
